Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment Supplements
Capsaicin
Topical capsaicin cream (available over the counter) may help relieve some of the pain of neuropathy. Rub it on the affected area, but be careful not to get it in your eyes. Capsaicin is extracted from cayenne pepper.
Gamma-Linolenic Acid
Gamma-linolenic acid is found in evening primrose oil, borage oil and black currant seed oil. GLA can help to improve nerve function and prevent peripheral neuropathy symptoms.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E helps protect the body from the affects of free radicals. As an antioxidant, it helps guard against the common complications of diabetes, including neuropathy.
B Complex Vitamins
The B vitamins are essential for nerve health. In particular, B-12 helps regenerate the nerve coverings, which are called myelin sheaths. Benfotiamine is a lipid-soluble form of vitamin B1. This means that it metabolizes more quickly and is more effective.
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Try a daily dosage of about 20 to 50 mg of alpha lipoic acid. Because it assists in blood sugar control, it may help peripheral neuropathy that is caused by diabetes.
