Nutrition for Asthma
Diet Principles:
* Men should follow a moderately low-fat diet, with fat calories limited to 12%. Women should have no more than 22% fat in the diet.
* Reduce sugar in all forms.
* Eat a lot of high complex carbohydrates such as grains and potatoes
* Protein should make up 12-15% of your diet.
* Reduce foods high in arachidonic acid (red meats and dairy products.)
* Use the elimination/rotation diet, the rotation diet, and the rotation diet expanded, as explained on page 3.
Therapeutic Foods:
Make sure you eat plenty of garlic, onions, leeks, turnips, grapes, pineapple, green leafy vegetables, apricots, apricot kernels, almonds, walnuts, carrots, pumpkin, sunflower seeds, figs, daikon, lychee, tangerines, loquats, honey, molasses, mustard greens, collards, cauliflower, endive, cherries, elderberries, green vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, alfalfa sprouts, sesame seeds, and grains.
Increase omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Good sources include vegetables, nuts, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, walnuts, seed oils, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, and black currant oil.
You'll also benefit from foods high in flavonoids and carotenoids: dark green leafy vegetables, and vegies that are a deep yellow or orange.
Recommended Fresh Juices:
Celery and papaya
Celery, endive, and carrot
Spinach and carrot
Lemon juice in water
Lime, horseradish, and garlic

Try These House Remedies to See if any of Them Help You:
Eat mango fruit (including the skin) everyday.
Take 1/2 cup of dried lychee, discard the skin and stones, then steam in a covered pot, mash and serve; take once a day.
Older persons with a cough that produces thick phlegm should try the following: 1 dried persimmon and 1 oz. of candied honey, covered with water, then steamed in a covered pot, mashed and eaten once a day.
Take a fresh lemon (skin included), add 1-2 Tbsp. sugar, then steam in water until soft. Mash and serve; 2 x day.
Peel 3 fresh peaches, peel and simmer with 1 oz. sugar in a covered pot. Discard the stones and eat 1 x day.
Mix together 1 oz. of walnut kernels, 1/2 oz. sugar and 1/5 oz. turnip seeds. Steam for 30 minutes and serve 2 x day.
Mix 2 oz. walnut kernels with 3 gm. red ginseng. Cover with water and simmer into a soup. Serve 2 x day for 3 days.
Combine 2 oz. fresh chestnuts and 4 pieces of Chinese dates, plus a small amount of lean pork. Add water and simmer until cooked, eat 1 x day.
Crush 1 oz. loquat fruit stones, add 3 gm. fresh ginger, cover with water and simmer 1 hour. Serve 2 x day.
Slice a fresh lemon or orange (without removing the skins), then add 1/2 oz. sugar. Steam in water until soft, mash and serve, eat 2 x day.
Cover 2 oz. of shelled peanuts with water, then boil and mash. Drink the broth and eat the peanuts 2 x day.
Foods to Avoid:
Cow's milk and other dairy products, white bread, refined or processed foods, sugar and sweets, oranges, tofu, tomatoes, meat, ice cream, shellfish, watermelons, salty foods or cold foods, bananas, and mung beans
The following may produce food intolerances: Milk, chocolate, wheat, cheese, bananas, peanuts, citrus, food colorings (tartrazine),
aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Specific Supplements:
Vitamin B12 - 1000 mcg. 1 x day IM, from by your doctor, or take sublingual tablets.
Vitamin B6 - 50 mg. 2x day; (10 mg. if on theophylline to counter side-effects - see below.)
Max EPA - 3 gm. 1 x day
Flax oil - 1-2 Tbsp. a day
Beta carotene - 25,000 mg. a day
Selenium - 250 mcg. a day
For Those with Allergies:
Vitamin E - 400 I.U. a day to start, then slowly build up to 800 I.U.
Vitamin C - 1-2 gm. a day
Magnesium - 400 mg. a day
Hydrochloric Acid - Up to 5 grains at mealtime only, and increase very slowly; if you feel any burning in your stomach, stop immediately.
Pantothenic Acid - 500 mg. morning or afternoon
Staphage lysate - Begin with 0.5 cc. intradermally (on the skin) and work up to 2.5 cc. intranasally (through the nostrils)
