Home Remedies for Brittle Fingernails
Brittle nails are primarily caused by overexposure to water. When the nails come into contact with the water, they expand to absorb some of it. As they dry, they contract. This expanding and contracting can wear down nails over time, causing them to become weak and fragile. Home remedies for brittle fingernails can help prevent this wearing down and promote stronger nails.

Vegetable Oil
Lathering your brittle nails in vegetable oil on a regular basis can help strengthen them. The oil replenishes and seals in moisture that can be lost when hands are frequently in water. For a mess-free way apply the vegetable oil, fill a clean nail polish bottle with it. Apply the oil to the nails just as you would polish, and be sure to swipe the underside of longer nails with the brush as well.

Gloves
Wearing gloves when washing dishes, a car, or a pet will keep your nails from being exposed to water for long periods of time. You should wear rubber gloves on top of cotton ones. The rubber gloves will keep out the water while the cotton ones will soak up the sweat produced inside the gloves and keep your nails as dry as possible.

Massage
Massaging the nails and fingertips can help with blood circulation. Doctors suggest doing this 3 to 4 times a day to increase blood flow, which can help keep the nails strong. Petroleum jelly or hand cream can be used while performing the massage if you wish to moisturize at the same time.

Biotin
Biotin is a nutrient that supports the growth of strong, thick nails. Foods that contain a high amount of this mineral include cauliflower, nuts, and lentils. A supplement of biotin may also be recommended if you have very weak nails. You can take 2.5 milligrams of the nutrient daily as a home remedy for brittle fingernails
