The Best Diet For Allergies and Hay Fever
We all know that eating a healthy diet has many benefits; however, did you also know that your diet can have an effect on your allergies or hay fever. One of the advantages of eating a healthy diet is that it helps you to maintain a strong respiratory system. Are you experiencing clogged nasal passages - it may have something to do with what you're eating - or not eating. Eating the proper foods can actually help to open clogged nasal passages. Your immunity to allergies can also be increased by eating a healthy balanced diet. Helping you body to fight sinus and respiratory infections can be as simple as eating the right foods that contain the proper nutrients.

Mediterranean diets typically include nuts, apples, grapes, oranges and tomatoes - all foods that contain anti-inflammatory properties that can help to protect against allergies.

Nuts. Can be an excellent source of magnesium and vitamin E. Magnesium may help to protect against wheezing and has proven to help increase lung function.

Apples, Oranges, and Tomatoes. These fruits are excellent sources of another important antioxidant, vitamin C. The antioxidant provided in these fruits helps to protect against allergies and asthma. Since almost half the people who have asthma also have allergies this is an important benefit.

Grapes. The skins of red grapes are filled with another important antioxidant - resveratrol, which may help to reduce inflammation in the body. Studies have shown that grapes also provide additional protection against both allergies and wheezing. So a glass of red wine with your dinner may help with your wheezing.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Another important resource to consider in your fight against allergies are the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA that are provided when your diet includes cold water fish such as wild salmon, albacore tuna and mackerel. They are all excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. If you aren't a big fan of eating fish you should consider fish oil supplements which can be an excellent source as well.

Zinc:
Zinc also plays an important role in helping your boy to fight infection. Zinc has both antibacterial and antiviral benefits in your body that can help to improve your immune system. You will find that excellent sources of zinc include oysters, lean beef, whole grains and tofu.

Foods That May Help or Hurt Your Allergies
Spicy foods can be both a help and a hindrance. While they can help to thin mucus and ease allergy congestion, they can also irritate your throat. When this happens, the end result is excess mucus and an accompanying cough.

Cajun spice. Cajun spice, made from cayenne peppers, is like a natural nasal decongestant for some people because it can stimulate nerve fibers.
Garlic. One of my favorite cooking herbs and it may help make mucus less sticky.
Horseradish. A chemical similar to one used in decongestants is also found in horseradish.
