Seven Home Remedies for a Toothache

Never use a warm compress for a toothache. If the toothache is caused by an infection, heat could make it worse.

Try a Little Whiskey
An old, tried and true folk remedy for a toothache is whiskey. Take a little whiskey into your mouth and hold it in the area of your aching tooth, then spit it out. Some of the alcohol will soak into your gums and numb the pain of your toothache.

Treat Your Toothache with Clove Oil
You can find clove oil at your local drug store. Either place a few drops of oil directly on the aching tooth, or rub it onto your gums where the toothache is. This remedy will ease the toothache pain.

Elevate Your Head
If your toothache seems worse when you lie down, try sleeping with your head raised a little higher than usual. A few extra pillows should do the trick.
